This is our gourmet spin on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, perfect for celebrating the Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day in style. The dish features an elegant combination of brie cheese, fig jam, and prosciutto - all sandwiched between two slices of high-quality sourdough bread.
Ingredients (for 2)
- Brie cheese - 200 grams - sliced thin
 - Fig jam - 4 tablespoon
 - Prosciutto - 100 grams - slices
 - Sourdough bread - 4 slices
 - Butter - 2 tablespoon - softened
 - Fresh figs - 2 - sliced for garnish
 - Microgreens - 1 handful - for garnish
 - Sea salt - a pinch
 
Preparation
- 
                    Step 1 - 🍞➡️🧈Spread one side of each bread slice with softened butter.
 - 
                    Step 2 - 🍞⬆️➡️🍇Turn the bread slices over and spread fig jam generously on two slices.
 - 
                    Step 3 - 🍞🍒🧀🥓On the fig-jam-covered slices of bread, layer the thinly sliced brie cheese and prosciutto.
 - 
                    Step 4 - 🍞🔝➡️🥪Top with the remaining slices of bread, butter side facing upwards.
 - 
                    Step 5 - 🍳🔥➡️🔛Place a non-stick pan over medium heat.
 - 
                    Step 6 - 🥪➡️🍳🔥When the pan is hot, add the sandwiches. Fry each side for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
 - 
                    Step 7 - 🔪🥪🧂Remove the sandwich from heat, slice it in half, and garnish with sliced figs, microgreens and a pinch of sea salt.
 
Additional
This dish is a perfect example of how a few upmarket ingredients can really elevate a classic dish. Plus, kids can have fun helping to assemble the sandwiches. For a vegetarian version, swap the prosciutto with some roasted bell peppers or sharp sundried tomatoes.
