For National Hot Chocolate Day let's reminisce the classic hot cocoa with a contemporary gourmet twist. Our key ingredients are high-quality dark chocolate and a touch of Tahitian vanilla bean, lavished with homemade marshmallows and dusted with gold edible glitter for show-stopping sparkle.
Ingredients (for 2)
- High-quality dark chocolate - 150g - chopped
- Whole milk - 500ml
- Tahitian vanilla bean - 1 - split and scraped
- Granulated sugar - 45g
- Salt - pinch
- Homemade or gourmet marshmallows - 12
- Edible gold glitter - for dusting
Preparation

Step 1 - 🥛🔥🍲Bring the milk to a simmer on medium heat in a saucepan.

Step 2 - 🍫🥄🍚🧂Add the chopped chocolate, sugar, salt, and the scraped vanilla bean pod into the saucepan.

Step 3 - 🔥🥄🍫Simmer gently, whisking regularly until the chocolate is melted.

Step 4 - 🔥✋⏲️Remove saucepan from heat, cover and let the mixture infuse for 15 minutes.

Step 5 - 🔥🥛🍺Reheat the mixture gently before pouring into pre-warmed clear mugs.

Step 6 - ☁️✨🍵Top the hot chocolate with marshmallows and dust generously with gold edible glitter.
Additional
For a variation, swap the milk for almond milk to keep it vegan, or top with whipped cream for extra indulgence. Kids will enjoy collaborating in the glitter dusting. The hot chocolate is dark, rich and not overly sweet - add more sugar to taste, if necessary.
