This recipe takes bread to the next level by playing around flavors with a blend of savory, sweet, and a slight hint of freshness from snow peas. It's a dish that's not only appealing to the palate but is also a feast for the eyes.
Ingredients (for 2)
- Snow peas - 1 cup - stringed and halved
- Bacon slices, maple flavored - 4 - None
- Artisan bread loaf - 1 - unsliced
- Butter - 4 tablespoons - melted
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons - None
- Garlic - 2 cloves - minced
- Thyme - 1 tablespoon - chopped
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon - freshly ground
- Salt - to taste - None
Preparation
-
Step 1 - 🌡️🥓🍁Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the bacon slices on a baking sheet and coat with a tablespoon of maple syrup. Roast until crispy, about 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, chop into bite-sized pieces.
-
Step 2 - 🥬🥣🔥Add the snow peas, a drizzle of olive oil, salt, and pepper on the same baking sheet, roast until they turn bright green and slightly tender, around 5-10 minutes.
-
Step 3 - 🍞🔪💎Use a sharp knife to make diagonal slashes on the bread about an inch apart, ensure not to cut through the bottom. Rotate and repeat to create a diamond pattern.
-
Step 4 - 🧈🧄🌿In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, minced garlic, chopped thyme, remaining maple syrup, salt, and pepper.
-
Step 5 - 🍲🥖💦Brush or spread the butter mixture between each cut in the bread. Tuck in the roasted snow peas and crispy bacon pieces into the cuts.
-
Step 6 - 🍞🔥🟤Wrap the bread in aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes or until the bread turns crispy and golden brown on top.
-
Step 7 - ⏲️🍽️😋Allow the bread to cool down for a few minutes before serving.
Additional
Feel free to substitute bacon with turkey bacon or leave it out completely for a vegetarian option. Kids can safely help out by brushing the bread with butter mixture or inserting the roasted snow peas and bacon. You can also add some cheese for a more decadent version. It's a versatile dish that you can modify to cater to different taste preferences while keeping it delightfully fresh and unique.
