A little about this dish
Introducing our Rosemary Infused Yakitori, a delightful fusion of East and West that offers an adventurous spin on the usual BBQ. Bringing together aromatic rosemary and the umami-rich flavor of soy sauce, this inventive mix transcends the ordinary.
Ingredients (for 4)
- Rosemary sprigs — 4 — fresh, strip the leaves
- Chicken — 1 ½ lb — boneless, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Soy sauce — ½ cup
- Sake — 3 tablespoons
- Mirin — 3 tablespoons
- Sugar — 1 tablespoon
- Garlic cloves — 2 — minced
- Green onions — 4 — cut into 1-inch pieces
- Vegetable oil — as needed
- Salt — to taste
Preparation
-
Step 1 — 🌿🍲💦Combine soy sauce, sake, mirin, sugar, minced garlic, and rosemary leaves in a saucepan. Simmer until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly.
-
Step 2 — 🍗🥣⏲️Toss the cut chicken pieces in half the sauce and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
-
Step 3 — 🔥🍢🌲Preheat your grill to a medium heat. Thread the marinated chicken and green onions onto skewers, alternating between them.
-
Step 4 — 🍢🔥🌡️Lightly oil the grill grid. Place skewers on the grill. Cook by turning frequently and brushing with the remaining sauce, until chicken is nicely charred and fully cooked, about 15-20 minutes.
-
Step 5 — 🌿🍽️😋Serve the skewers immediately, garnished with sprigs of fresh rosemary.
A final fox tip
Traditionally, 'Yakitori' is a Japanese style skewered chicken, but don't be afraid to get creative with the recipe, perhaps by adding vegetables, like bell peppers or mushrooms, to the skewers for added texture and flavor. Don’t forget to snap a photo before you dig in – those charred skewers against the bold green of the onion and rosemary make for a perfect 'Instagram' post!
