Autumn Thyme Korean Flatbread

Sometimes the most unexpected combinations surprise us with harmonious flavors, and our Korean-inspired Thyme-infused bread is the perfect example. To capture the essence, we marry the vibrant, pungent flavor profiles of traditional Korean cuisine with the subtle, earthy notes of Thyme, resulting in an exceptional bread that adds a unique twist to your autumn table.
Ingredients (for 4)
- Fresh thyme leaves - 2 teaspoons - finely chopped
- Korean wheat flour (mepssalgaru) - 1 cup
- Water - 1/2 cup - lukewarm
- Dry yeast - 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons - optional
Preparation

Step 1 - π₯£ππ§Mix the yeast, sugar and lukewarm water together in a bowl. Rest it for 10 minutes

Step 2 - πΏπ₯£π¨βπ³Add Korean wheat flour, finely chopped thyme leaves, salt, and olive oil in the yeast mix. Knead the ingredients to get a non-sticky, smooth dough.

Step 3 - β³ππCover the dough and let it rise in a warm place. Wait till it doubles in size, which could take about 1 hour.

Step 4 - π‘οΈπ₯πPreheat your oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C).

Step 5 - π¨βπ³πͺπKnead the risen dough for two more minutes. Split it into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into flat circles about 1/4 inch thick.

Step 6 - ππ₯πͺPlace your flatbreads on a baking sheet. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired, and press them gently into the dough.

Step 7 - π₯β²οΈπBake the flatbreads in your preheated oven for around 15-20 minutes. Wait till they turn a lovely golden brown.
Additional
This bread can be served with your favorite dipping sauces such as a classic olive oil-balsamic mix, or with sesame oil infused with Korean red pepper flakes for a spicy kick. Add a handful of grated cheese before baking for a cheesy spin on this delectable bread. Kids can help out with kneading the dough, or with the exciting task of playing 'watchman' as the bread turns a lovely golden brown in the oven!
