To commemorate International Sushi Day, today's recipe brings together the art of sushi-making with a central element of New York City's iconography - The Statue of Liberty. Key ingredients in this sculpture-like sushi will include fresh sashimi-grade fish, sushi rice, nori, avocado, tobiko, and cucumber.
Ingredients (for 2)
- Sashimi grade tuna - 150g - thinly sliced
- Sushi rice - 1.5 cups - cooked and seasoned
- Nori - 2 sheets
- Avocado - 1 - sliced
- Tobiko - 2 tablespoons
- Cucumber - 1 - julienned
- Soy sauce - to taste
- Pickled ginger - to taste
- Wasabi - to taste
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Preparation

Step 1 - ππ§π₯£Cook the sushi rice according to the package's instructions. Season it with the rice vinegar, sesame oil, and salt.

Step 2 - ππ₯’πPlace the nori on the sushi mat, then evenly distribute the sushi rice on the nori.

Step 3 - π₯π₯πHorizontally, place the thinly sliced tuna, avocado, and cucumber slices on the rice.

Step 4 - π₯π£π₯’Roll the sushi using the sushi mat, apply pressure evenly to make the roll tight and well packed

Step 5 - πͺπ£π€Use a sharp knife to cut the sushi roll into bite-size pieces.

Step 6 - π£π½οΈπ₯Arrange the pieces on a plate, stacking some on top of the other to resemble the torch shape.

Step 7 - π£π₯πTop off the arranged sushi pieces with Tobiko to create the 'flame' of the torch.
