This dish brings a twist on a classic Chinese ingredient - chives. Not only would this dish warm you up on a chilly day, but it also looks vivid with different colors from vegetables, making it the perfect Insta-worthy dish.
Ingredients (for 4)
- Chive blossoms - 2 cups - coarsely chopped
- Shrimps - 1 lb - peeled and deveined
- Medium sized oranges - 2 - zested and juiced
- Garlic - 3 cloves - minced
- Ginger - 1 piece about 2 inches - grated
- Cornstarch - 2 tsp
- Spring onions - 2 - chopped
- Red bell pepper - 1 - julienned
- Crushed red pepper flakes - 1/2 tsp
- Sesame seeds - 1 tsp - roasted
- Vegetable oil - 2 tbsp
- Salt - to taste
Preparation

Step 1 - ππ₯£π₯In a bowl, whisk together orange juice, orange zest, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cornstarch until well combined. Set aside.

Step 2 - π€π³π§Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add shrimp to the pan, season with a pinch of salt, and cook until pink. Remove and set aside.

Step 3 - πΆοΈπ₯¬π³In the same pan, add the remaining oil, and saute the red bell pepper and spring onions until just tender.

Step 4 - πΈπ€πΆοΈStir in the chive blossoms, shrimp, and the orange sauce. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes and allow to cook for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly.

Step 5 - π‘οΈπ₯π½οΈTurn off the heat and sprinkle roasted sesame seeds on top. Serve immediately.
Additional
Make sure that you don't overcook the shrimp, or they'll become rubbery. If you want to prepare this meal ahead, you can create the sauce and prep the vegetables before time; just throw everything in the pan when it's time to serve! If you're not into heat, feel free to reduce or omit the red pepper flakes. You could also squeeze some extra orange juice on top before serving for additional sweetness. It's a fun recipe that kids can help prep!
