This recipe brings a refreshing twist to a traditional BBQ by incorporating the aromatic harmony of Chinese cuisine with French Tarragon. BBQ's are not just about steaks and potatoes, and this Chinese-inspired dish featuring Tarragon will prove just that.
Ingredients (for 2)
- Fresh tarragon - 1 bunch - chopped
- Baby back ribs - 2 racks
- Hoisin sauce - 1/2 cup
- Chinese five spice powder - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Honey - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic cloves - 2 cloves - minced
- Ginger root - 1 inch - grated
- Canola oil - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame seeds - - for garnish
- Salt - - to taste
- Black pepper - - to taste
Preparation
-
Step 1 - π₯£π―πΏIn a mixing bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, half the chopped tarragon, and Chinese five spice to prepare the marinade.
-
Step 2 - ππΆοΈβ±οΈSeason the ribs with salt and pepper then coat them in the marinade you prepared. Let the ribs rest for at least 2 hours, ensuring that the flavors soak in.
-
Step 3 - π₯ππPreheat your grill on medium-high heat. Once it's hot, oil the grates using canola oil and place the ribs on it, bone-side down, then reduce heat to medium. Grill until the ribs are nicely charred, for about 25 minutes. Don't forget to flip them halfway!
-
Step 4 - πΏπ₯’β¨Garnish the charred ribs with the remaining tarragon and a generous sprinkling of sesame seeds.
Additional
This dish beautifully combines the savory and sweet flavours of a traditional Char Siu with the subtle anise-like aroma of Tarragon. It's a wonderful way to enjoy a BBQ while exploring different cuisines. Feel free to swap the ribs for a meat of your choice or even tofu for a vegetarian version.
