In celebration of Korea Independence Day, let's prepare Bibimbap! This Korean dish is both visually stunning and packed with flavor. It’s a rice bowl topped with an array of vibrant vegetables, protein, and spicy gochujang sauce. Finished with an egg, it's truly a work of art that's rich in flavor and history.
Ingredients (for 4)
- White rice - 2 cups - rinsed
- Spinach - 1 cup - cleaned and blanched
- Bean sprouts - 1 cup - cleaned and blanched
- Carrot - 1 - julienned
- Beef - 12 oz - thinly sliced
- Eggs - 4 - cooked sunny side up
- Cucumber - 1 - julienned
- Gochujang (korean hot pepper paste) - 4 tablespoons - no prep
- Sesame oil - 2 teaspoons - no prep
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon - no prep
- Salt - to taste - no prep
- Black pepper - to taste - no prep
Preparation

Step 1 - 🍚👩🍳🕑Begin cooking the 2 cups of white rice according to the instructions on your rice cooker.

Step 2 - 🥕🥩🔪♨️Blanch the spinach and bean sprouts, then sauté the julienned carrots and thinly sliced beef in a tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Step 3 - 🌿🧂🍴Season the blanched and sautéed ingredients with a touch of salt, a sprinkling of black pepper and 2 teaspoons sesame oil. Mix well.

Step 4 - 🍳🔥🍽️Cook the 4 eggs sunny-side-up in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Step 5 - 🥣🌈👌Place a serving of rice in a bowl. Neatly arrange the vegetables and beef on top, creating a colorful wheel. Place the sunny-side-up egg in the center.

Step 6 - 🥘🌶️🥢Serve the dish with a generous dollop of gochujang on top. Each diner can mix their bibimbap to suit their taste.
