A little about this dish
For this recipe, we are taking a classic Chinese New Year dish and giving it a fusion twist. Instead of the traditional dumplings, we are making Spicy Thai Chicken Wontons. These wontons are filled with a mixture of ground chicken, Thai spices, and green onions, and served with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. The dish combines the flavors of Chinese and Thai cuisine, making it a unique and exciting addition to your Chinese New Year celebration.
Ingredients (for 4)
- Ground chicken — 1 lb.
- Chili flakes — 1 tbsp.
- Garlic powder — 1 tbsp.
- Ginger powder — 1 tbsp.
- Fish sauce — 1 tbsp.
- Soy sauce — 1 tbsp.
- Green onions — 1 cup chopped
- Cornstarch — 1 tbsp.
- Egg — 1 — beaten
- Wonton wrappers — 1 package
- Honey — 1/2 cup
- Sambal oelek (chili paste) — 1/4 cup
- Rice vinegar — 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce — 1/4 cup
- Water — 2 tbsp.
- Cornstarch — 2 tbsp.
Preparation

Step 1 — 🥢🍲👨🍳In a large bowl, mix together the ground chicken, chili flakes, garlic powder, ginger powder, fish sauce, soy sauce, chopped green onions, and cornstarch. Mix well.

Step 2 — 📦🥟👌Take a wonton wrapper and place a teaspoon of filling in the center. Fold the wrapper up into a pouch, making sure there are no gaps in the filling. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 3 — 🍲🔥👨🍳In a large pot of boiling water, cook the wontons for 5-7 minutes or until they float to the surface and are cooked through.

Step 4 — 🥢🔪🍯While the wontons are cooking, make the dipping sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, sambal oelek, rice vinegar, soy sauce, water, and cornstarch. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.

Step 5 — 🍲🥢🍯Serve the cooked wontons with the dipping sauce on the side.
A final fox tip
These Spicy Thai Chicken Wontons can be made ahead of time and frozen for later use. To freeze, simply place the wontons on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze. Once frozen, transfer them to a sealed container or bag. To cook, simply boil the frozen wontons for an extra minute or two.
